Our mission is to help basketball players of all ages reach their full potential. Pro Hoops Inc. works closely with players to make sure their needs are addressed

 

 

The criteria for choosing the HSH All-Time Best team include an outstanding High School career as well as success as a collegiate athlete and or Professional.  Players must have completed their college careers to be eligible.

The following players have made the mark in Long Island High School Basketball as well as the collegiate level.

Debbie Beckford - 5'9 - Guard

Port Washington/St. John's

Led SJU to 1983 Big East Championship and first NCAA tournament appearance.  1st in FG pct. and FT pct.  Led Big East in shooting pct. 1983.  1st Team All-Big East 1983.  MVP 1983 Big East Tournament.  2nd all time leading scorer at SJU. St. John's Hall of Fame.  Kodak All-American.

Sue Bird - 5'9 - Guard

Syosset/Christ the King/UCONN

Drafted No. 1 in the 2002 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm, WNBA All-Star, WNBA Rookie of the Year.   2002 Wade Trophy recipient and Associated Press and Naismith Player of the Year...Winner of the 2002 Honda Award for Women’s Basketball Recipient of the first annual Senior CLASS Award presented to the national’s most outstanding senior basketball player.  Three-time Conseco/Nancy Lieberman-Cline National Point Guard of the Year Award winner.   Led UCONN to 2001 NCAA National title.  Two-Time All-American.  Ranks 18th on UConn All-Time scoring list with 1,378 career points.  2nd in 3pt FG made. 1st in 3pt FG pct. & FT pct.  2nd in assists and 7th in steals.

Debbie Brajevich - 5'5 - Guard

St. John the Baptist/St. John's

Led St. John the Baptist to 2 Long Island titles 1976 & 1977.  Named by Newsday in 2002  as one of Long Islands all time great players.  High School All-American 1976.  Led St. Johns Univ. to top 12 ranking and 1981 AIAW East Regional Finals - 3rd all time assist leader at SJU, 6th in steals, 12th in blocked shots.  Season Assist Leader - 1979, 1980, 1981.   1st Team All-State NYSAIAW 1978, 1979, 1980.  Drafted by Dallas Diamonds of WBL 1981.

Side note:  Brajevich is also a 2 time ASA/USSSA Softball All-American and was elected to the LI ASA Softball Hall of Fame in 2001.

Denise Hammersley - 5'5 - Guard

OLMA/Fordham

Led OLMA to State CHSAA & Federation Class "D" title.  One of 5 2,000 point scorers from Long Island.  1st all time in steals, 4th in assists, 6th in scoring.  Fordham Hall of Fame.  Named by Newsday as one of Long Island's all time great players 2002

Regina Howard - 6'2 - Forward/Center

North Babylon/Rutgers

2nd all time leading scorer & rebounder at Rutgers.  MVP-NCAA East Regional 1987.  Wade Trophy Candidate. Kodak, Street & Smiths All-American 1987. Co-MVP with Sue Wicks for the Scarlet Knights 1987.  Rutgers Hall of Fame.

Floretta Jackson - 5'5 - Guard

Wyandanch/James Madison

1985-member of US Jr. National Team.  All time assist leader for JMU.  Led JMU to 2 CAA championships, 2 NCAA sweet 16's.  CAA 1st team - 1987.  JMU Hall of Fame.  Named by Newsday as one of Long Island's all time great players 2002

Allison Jones - 6'0 - Forward

Sayville/Southern Conn./St. John's

Kodak District All-American in 1981, St. John's leading scorer 1981, Nominated for Wade Trophy 1981,  St. John's Hall of Fame.

Monika Kost - 6'1 - Forward

Lindenhurst/Duke

Scored over 1400 points in high school and was a high school All-American and a 3 time All Long Island selection.  Also a unanimous selection as the Naismith winner of player of the year and Miss Basketball in NY State in 1987. Went to Duke on a full basketball scholarship, started 3 years and was the MVP senior year at Duke.  In several top 10 categories for all time career records: 

9th All time shooting pct - .527

7th All time free throws made – 300

6th All time free throws taken – 474

One of the purest power forwards in the game and one of the best to come from LI.

Lisa Smith - 5'10 - Guard

Hempstead/Mississippi/St. John's

Led Hempstead to 4 County titles, 2 State titles.  2,418 pts. for HS career - one of only five players from Long Island to do so.  Led St. John's to top 25 ranking 1988.  St. John's Hall of Fame.  2nd team All-Big East 1987, 1988.  Named by Newsday as one of Long Island's all time great players 2002.

Carol Walderman - 5'10 - Guard

Centereach/Colorado/Penn St.

Led Centereach to 2 County titles.  Leading scorer PSU 1982 & 1983.  7th all time career leader in steals, 9th in assists, 15th in scoring - only played 2 years at PSU.   Kodak All-American 1983.  Named by Newsday as one of Long Island's all time great players 2002.

Sue Wicks - 6'3 - Forward/Center

Center Moriches/Rutgers

Set LI record for most points in HS game (59)All time leading scorer and rebounder for Rutgers.  4 time NCAA All-American.  NCAA Player of the Year (Naismith Award) 1988.  Rutgers Hall of Fame.  Member of US Olympic Team 1988.  Holds 10 individual career records at Rutgers.  drafted by NY Liberty WNBA

WNBA All-Star.  Named by Newsday as one of Long Island's all time great players 2002
